With Turino Olympics around the corner, we’re gearing up for winter games and hitting the slopes! Yes it’s possible to go on a skiing day trip. Although New York City seems hundreds of miles from open mountains and fresh air, there are actually many mountains less than a 3 hour drive from Manhattan.
Patterson, New York
Thunder Ridge mountain boasts being so close to New York City that you won’t hear one, “Are we there yet?” Located in the rolling hills of Patterson, New York, they are just 75 minutes from New York City. A family friendly mountain, Thunder Ridge has slopes for beginners and experts. And if you’re worried about the conditions, just listen to their snowmakers motto: “Heck no, we make it snow!”
Hunter, New York
Boasting a 1600 foot vertical drop, 200 skiable acres and 53 trails, Hunter Mountain is an excellent getaway for the New York City skier. Hunter was also the first in the state to install snowmaking, the first with top-to-bottom snowmaking, and the first to have 100% snowmaking coverage of the entire mountain.
