Agerola sits on a high plateau in the coastal region of Campania, just southeast of Naples near the storied Amalfi coast. Perhaps less chic than its neighbors Amalfi and Positano, Agerola is far less traveled but no less scenic.
Rather than for its hotels and beaches, Agerola is famous for its cheeses. The town lies in the Monti Lattari mountain range, whose name comes from the same root as latte or milk. The region’s best cheese comes from farms in this tiny rural town. Three producers in particular (Agerolina; Fior di Agerola; La Montanina) make mozzarella and provola perfetti. Forgotten by most, this area offers visitors unrivaled beauty and deliciousness.
